Visual Geophysical Exploration Environment

This project combines new pedagogical models with advances in technology and the geosciences to create an inquiry-based geoscience learning environment for undergraduates using authentic scientific tools and practices. The specially designed downloadable tools include a 5D visualization environment, geophysical datasets of observed and modeled data used within the visualization environment, a set of concept models to illustrate fundamental geophysical principles in idealized contexts, and a set of probes used to investigate the role of fundamental principles within learner-created visualizations. The site also features activities about El Nino designed to be used during the lab sessions of introductory geoscience courses, with learner and teacher guides and an online system for submitting student results.

This description of a site outside SERC has not been vetted by SERC staff and may be incomplete or incorrect. If you have information we can use to flesh out or correct this record let us know.

Part of the Cutting Edge collection. The NAGT/DLESE On the Cutting Edge project helps geoscience faculty stay up-to-date with both geoscience research and teaching methods.
