This article critically analyzes the Millennium Ecosystem Assessment Synthesis Report, the result of a large scale research project that took place over four years. Findings in the report suggest that as many as 60 % of life-supporting systems are being degraded, predicts abrupt changes such as the emergence of new diseases, sudden changes in water quality, the collapse of fisheries and shifts in regional climates.
