This report consists of a series of ten case studies that represent a diverse cross-section of communities affected by mining and a diverse set of issues about mining. The case studies demonstrate the urgent need for mining companies to formally recognize the rights of communities to free, informed consent as a precondition of mining; to be held accountable to communities during mining; and adhere to the highest environmental, human and social rights, standards and practices.
