Logistics


The workshop will be held at the College of William and Mary, with participants staying at the Williamsburg Hospitality House. Workshop meetings will be held in the Alumni House directly across Richmond Road from the Hospitality House. Participants are responsible for all transportation costs to Williamsburg; however, we will provide on-site meals and lodging for all registered participants.

Posters:

We encourage all participants to contribute a poster describing one aspect of what your department does to prepare students for careers. Posters should fit on a standard tri-fold poster board, 3' high by 4' wide, with a 2' wide center panel and side panels each 1' wide. You are welcome to use the entire board or just the center panel (which would be 2' wide by 3' high).

Arrival and Departure Information:

The workshop will begin with an opening program on Wednesday evening, January 10th, 2007. We will gather for a reception and dinner at 5:00 pm upstairs in the College of William and Mary's Alumni House, directly across Richmond Road from the Hospitality House, where participants are lodging. The workshop will end at 2:00 on Friday afternoon, January 12, 2007 (NOTE CHANGE IN END TIME).

Accommodations:

All meals and lodging is provided at no charge to participants (travel costs are the responsibility of the participants). You will be staying at the Williamsburg Hospitality House, at 415 Richmond Road, Williamsburg, VA. We will arrange reservations, and pay for each participant for a single room on Wednesday and Thursday nights, with check-out Friday morning (January 10-12, 2007). Computer Access:

We encourage participants to bring a laptop computer with wireless internet access capability.

Parking:

Parking is available free of charge at the Hospitality House for hotel guests.

What to Bring:

Dress will be casual during the workshop--be prepared for seasonably cool temperatures. Average high and low temperatures for Williamsburg in January are 49 and 28 degrees F.

Transportation to Williamsburg

William and Mary is located 150 miles south of Washington, D.C., midway between Richmond and Norfolk on I-64. Here are directions and maps to the College of William and Mary.

By Air:

We recommend you use either the Richmond or Newport News airports to fly to Williamsburg. Patrick Henry Airport in Newport News is about 20 minutes by car from Williamsburg; Richmond is about 50 minutes by car. Ground transportation other than taxis from Richmond will take longer as they will make stops along the way.

After we have travel information for all participants from the registration form, we will provide information about arrival times to coordinate ground transportation to Williamsburg.

Richmond International Airport:

Ground transportation: Groome Transportation 1-800-552-7911. Groome leaves the Airport for Williamsburg every hour on the hour. Exit the airport from the baggage claim area - Groome leaves from the island in the middle of the road. The cost is $40.00 one-way (not including tip) and $71.00 round-trip (excluding tip). If two or more ride together, the one-way cost without tip is $25 each. Other taxis services will cost around $65-$70 each way to Williamsburg. On the return trip back to the airport, the Hospitality House can arrange for a pick-up from Groome transportation.

Newport News/Williamsburg Patrick Henry Airport:

Served by a number of taxicab companies with taxis available at the outside curb. Taxicab fare from the airport to the college is around $35 per car.

By Rail:

Williamsburg is served by Amtrak. The distance from the train station to the Hospitality House (five blocks) is within walking distance, or you may wish to take a taxicab.

By Automobile:

From the North and West Areas (i.e. Northern Virginia, DC, Richmond)

  • Take Interstate-64 East
  • Take exit 238, follow signs toward Colonial Williamsburg
  • Take a right at the 2nd traffic light onto Rt. 132
  • Go straight through 2 traffic lights
  • Make the next right onto Scotland St.
  • Go 3 blocks to the traffic light, the Hospitality House is on right.
  • Parking is available for hotel guests at the Hospitality House lot.

From the South and East Areas (i.e. Virginia Beach, Norfolk, Newport News)

  • Take Interstate 64 West
  • Take exit 238, follow signs toward Colonial Williamsburg
  • Take a right at the 2nd traffic light onto Rt. 132
  • Go straight through 2 traffic lights
  • Make the next right onto Scotland St.
  • Go 3 blocks to the traffic light, the Hospitality House is on right.
  • Parking is available for hotel guests at the Hospitality House lot.
