RELG 238: The Sacred Body

Members of the Hawaiian Dance Troupe Halau Kiawekupono O Ka Ua
Course Description
The course included several segments, ranging in geographic scope from South Asia and Africa to the Pacific Islands and North America. Our analytic lenses zoomed in and out, from the telescopic toward the microscopic, as we considered bodies – sacred and profane – in places far and near: including our own place and our own bodies in relations to others. Our assignments in this writing rich course went beyond the written word to include the possibilities of digital, print, and other visual forms, including photography, film, bodily ritual, discourse, and dance, as well as textual artifacts.
