Steven Anderson

Earth and Atmospheric Sciences

For the past 8 years, Steve has served as the Director of the Mathematics and Science Teaching (MAST) Institute at the University of Northern Colorado. He also holds an appointment in the Department of Earth and Atmospheric Science, and is the Winchester Distinguished Faculty in Science Education. Specializing primarily in field courses, he has taught for the Semester at Sea program, Black Hills State University, the University of Pittsburgh's Honors College, the University of Arizona, and Arizona State University. Funded primarily through the NSF and NASA, his research in volcanology, planetary geology, and geoscience education has led to more than 30 peer-reviewed publications, including 2 in Nature. His geoscience education work involves conceptual understanding (he coauthored the Geoscience Concept Inventory with Dr. Julie Libarkin) and building a geoscience program from scratch as the sole geoscience faculty member at Black Hills State University.
