Implementation for Stephen Hall

This was a great project and very valuable for giving students a perspective on wetlands. I struggled a little bit but followed your directions and worked through everything. I myself was surprised at the data -- very interesting.

Here is the Power Point I showed to students. We had a significant discussion on each slide. Each slide was used as a launching point and I was very careful to allow students to draw their own conclusions.

Getting students to value wetlands - beyond habitat for alligators, etc is a good discussion point. Yes, I think seeing swamp water as part of fresh water protection for our drinking water supplies can be a leap. When you factor in the plant life and the idea that in heavy storm times, these areas can be the buffers for excess water and would only be a flood situation if they were allowed to be building lots. The types of soils around the wetlands can be filtering for excess water before it exits to aquifers and rivers and lakes with reservoirs. If is also habitat for many diverse species and we do need diversity to remain a healthy ecosystem.

Comparing to your own state and having students think beyond their immediate environment is excellent practice.
