Mapping Indonesian Tsunami of 04

This was my outline which I followed for my first Virtual Classroom (synchronous chat) meeting with 3 students who had signed up to complete this project for Extra Credit. Bd. is short for Blackboard which is the program we use at the university to communicate with students in an online 'classroom.'

This was the lesson plan I created for this project. The completion of the project was done independently by the students & a 3rd VC Meeting was not needed. (The students caught on fast & schedules became a problem.)

I forgot to mention these 3 female, university students were from Jr. & Sr. classes.

This is the PowerPoint file I sent to the 3 students before the first VC meeting. It was mainly an intro to the students before actually accessing the EET Step-by-Step procedures from the website. It was also created in case of the need for a back-up if the student computers had a problem (2 in a dorm & 1 at home).

This is the PowerPoint file I sent to the 3 students before the second VC meeting. This was when the students put into practice what they had learned during the first session, they SAVED this file, & then inserted it into PowerPoint. They then added labels, & other refinements. They were going to add it to team final projects for the week's study of the sphere interactions which precipitated the tsunami until after the tsunami. However, the work wasn't com[pleted in time, so was posted a few days later for the whole class to see in Blackboard.

This is the student's final map. A cover page describing some of the project - how done & why & what they had learned about the location & the far reaching effects of the trajedy. However, time had run out, but had been eye-opening for all.

Whoops! Sorry, I forgot to include the file which is attached here.

I forgot to mention above that 2 students want to do another map when they study volcanoes &/or hurricanes in our next 2 cycles & a few others have asked to join with them.

This is a survey I asked the students to complete after they said the map was ready to be posted for 'all' to see. Thought it might be interesting for you to know their reaction.
