Arizona students

Several students stayed after school and learnt how to compare climate data from California and Arizona. They learnt how to use excel and were thrilled with their results. The students then asked me to show them how to download data for New York, Texas and Germany. I have included their graphs for California, Arizona, Texas and New York, an in attachment. The data for Germany was different anf compared the effect on temperature of different levels of CO2. I will upload these graphs when completed.

In just two hours, the students learnt how to download data and use excel. They did not analyze their graphs or record their observations. I could see that this use of data could be a valuable part of a much wider project wityh students doing authentic research.

My students downloaded climate and rainfall data from various assigned locations from around the climate. They then joined together into teams to create a graph of temperature and rainfall of their locations using Excel. I then had them predict what biome each location was in. I had them make Power Points of their graphs and information about the area
including if they were correct about their hypothesis about the biome they were dealing with.
