The earth system data offers a great computer technology opportunity for students to study the structure of the earth and how it causes events to shape the history of the earth and people that live on it. I think once you learn the nuances you can use it to inject some neat lessons into your earth science class. I could also imagine using the information in a math class to study statistics, like for example statistically analyzing and evaluating the distributions the distance earthquakes are to boundaries or to fault lines.
