Figure 3. Examples of the gravelly deposits underlying surfaces of LRR alluvial fans. (a) shows a trench dug into a surface of Birch Springs alluvial fan to expose the deposits beneath and collect OSL samples for dating the timing of deposition. Two sample locations are shown. (b) and (c) show close-ups of the two OSL sample sites shown in (a). Samples were collected at night to protect the quartz grains within from exposure to light while excavating the material from the deposit.
