Faculty Development Throughout the Year

State Your Case!
includes a wide variety of faculty development opportunities at all three institutions during both the academic year and the summer, ranging from hour-long lunchtime discussions to two-day workshops. All faculty development events, irrespective of location, are open to all consortium faculty members. Travel expenses between Northfield and St. Paul are reimbursed, and workshop participation includes stipends. Below is a brief description of each type of event and links to more information.

Campus Learning and Teaching Center events
Discussions, talks, presentations, and mini-workshops focused on project-related teaching and assessment strategies are hosted by the learning and teaching centers of all three institutions as part of their regular programming. This link will take you to the academic year schedules of the St. Olaf College Center for Innovation in the Liberal Arts, the Carleton College Perlman Center for Learning and Teaching, and the Macalester College Center for Scholarship and Teaching.

Clinics
Clinics provide an opportunity for instructors to work on-on-one or in a small group for an hour or two on project-related teaching and assessment materials for their "demonstration courses," with assistance from one or more members of the project steering committee. Contact one of the State Your Case! steering committee members to arrange a clinic during the summer or academic year.

Workshops
Workshops span one or two days and are often led by faculty members or consultants from other institutions. The next State Your Case! workshop, providing practical strategies for helping students learn to develop and support a point of view in any academic field, will be held Tuesday, August 18 - Wednesday, August 19, 2009 at Macalester College. This link includes information and an on-line registration form for the August 2009 workshop, and access to selected materials (including participant lists) from previous workshops.
