Joe is a developmental physiologist currently working on the structure and function of American lobster cuticle and focusing on how the normal lobster defends against Shell Disease.  He is Emeritus Professor from U Mass Amherst where he taught and did research for 42 years.  Retiring in 2012 he moved his research interest to Maine with a small research lab at UNE Biddeford.  A poster (Abstract) at the 2018 Goldschmidt Conference describes his current interests and approach: Goldschmidt 2018 Poster.
