Edith Aguirre

El Paso Community College

<p class="p1">Edith Maria Aguirre, daughter of two teachers, grew up in the border city of El Paso, Tx, with family on both sides of the international border between Mexico and the USA. She is fluent in two languages and two measurement systems (English/Spanish, Imperial/Metric). Her love for mathematics began in 3rd grade, where she joined Number Sense to compete with other local chapters. She earned her B.S. in pure Mathematics and her M.S. in Statistics from the University of Texas at El Paso. She did several research programs as an undergraduate at places, like Cornell University and Rice University, but felt at home when she applied at El Paso Community College. Professor Aguirre teaches various mathematical courses from Pre-Algebra to Calculus and Statistics. She is involved in various initiatives for the college (like the Dana Center Mathematics Pathways, Competency-Based Education, and 8-week College Project) and is always smiling. Ms. Aguirre is always improving her courses and builds them around Universal Design. She includes and thinks about everyone when designing a new lesson or working on a college project. She is willing to spend extra time and drive extra miles to help and work with her students and colleagues.
