Louise Huffman is currently the Director of Education and Public Outreach for the US Ice Drilling Program (IDP) at Dartmouth College in Hanover, NH. The IDP Education and Outreach Program aims to make ice core, paleoclimate and polar science accessible to all non-technical audiences through interactive public events, professional development for educators and the creation of resources for classroom educators.
Huffman retired from public school teaching in 2007 and took on the role of ANDRILL (ANtarctic geological DRILLing) Coordinator of Education and Public Outreach at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln from 2007-2013. She was deployed to Antarctica twice—once in the 2002-03 Antarctic research season, on the “Stream Team” in the Dry Valleys and also spent the 2007 research season at McMurdo Station, Antarctica, coordinating the ANDRILL ARISE (ANDRILL Research Immersion for Science Educators) program. She served as the Chair of the Formal Education Subcommittee of the IPY Education and Outreach Committee, and the Chair of Theme 6 of the IPY Oslo Science Conference (www. http://www.ipy-osc.no/article/2009/1245943735.35). She was a founding member of PEI (Polar Educators International-www.polareducator.org) and has served as president, Executive Committee member, Ex-Officio member of the Council and is currently a member of the Council again.
