Title of Talk: Earth in the News!

Summmary: Every day, Earth is in the news. From hurricanes to volcanoes, oceans to deserts, Sahara to Antarctica, Earth's wonderful diversity and dynamic forces affect our daily lives. This news can be a powerful (if at times tragic) entry point for students to explore Earth system science. Of special relevance to this workshop, Earth news also provides a rich array of images and data to support inquiry and data analysis. We'll tap into online data sources, and learn how to use resources such as Earth Observatory, to learn the science behind the new, with a special focus on Earth's forces as seen from space.
