Geophysics of the News part of Cutting Edge:Geophysics:Workshop 07:Geophysics Activities
The is a project to present. both orally and written, information on the Plate Tectonics setting of a geographic region in the news. Emphasis is on the geophysical studies/results from the region, but plate boundaries are the setting.
Wysocki Farm Refraction Project part of Cutting Edge:Geophysics:Workshop 07:Geophysics Activities
Wysocki Farm refraction project is a lab activity to determine depth to the water table and to bedrock using given seismic refraction data collected on the campus of the University of Massachusetts. Seven shots over one geophone spread allow for detailed modeling of subsurface boundaries.
General Geophysics part of Cutting Edge:Course Design:Goals Database
Introduction to the study of geophysics presented from the global viewpoint, covering plate tectonics, seismology, gravity, isostasy, magnetism, and heat flow. Lectures, in-class activities, problem sets, oral and written presentations, and lab projects both in the field and the computer lab constitute the class work. Course is open to Juniors, Seniors and first year grad students.
