As part of the marketing and communications team at SERC, I create and coordinate content to enhance awareness of SERC and NAGT, support the planning and execution of workshops and events, and facilitate the dissemination of information. In my role, I'm able to draw upon my love for language and appreciation for creativity, as well as my deep respect for geoscience education and Earth literacy.

Background

I came to SERC following several years spent living abroad in various capacities. In 2017 I was selected as a Kone Foundation Writing Fellow at Saari Residence in Finland, from 2015-2016 I served as a Fulbright Fellow in Ukraine, and from 2014-2015 I earned my Masters degree in Sweden through a Rotary Global Grant Scholarship. Following these international experiences, I'm thrilled to join SERC and return to Northfield, MN, where I attended elementary school through college.

Education

Uppsala University, Uppsala, Sweden - Religion in Peace and Conflict, Master of Arts in Theology, 2015

Thesis: Self-Narration as Social Activism: Kierkegaard, Whitman, and Individuality Within Community

St. Olaf College, Northfield, MN - American Studies and Biology, concentrations in Environmental Studies and Historical Perspectives, Bachelor of Arts Cum Laude, 2013

Personal Interests

In all that I do, no matter where I travel, I carry with me my abiding passion for writing. Though I mainly write fiction, my work often involves research and is closely informed by the natural world. Most recently, my research for fiction brought me to Russia and the high Arctic. I write and publish under the traditional Scandinavian spelling of my last name; you can learn more about my writing at www.larapalmqvist.com. When not crafting stories or absorbed by a book, I enjoy riding my horse, Winifred, spending time with my family, identifying bird calls, and trail running.
