Jeff Estes

<p class="MsoNoSpacing">Jeff currently serves on the Governor’s STEM Education Innovation Alliance, the Washington State Leadership and Assistance for Science Education Reform (LASER) Advisory Group, the Washington Next Generation STEM Teacher Preparation Project & Collaborative (NextGen-WA) and the Washington State Board of Education’s Mastery-based (MBL) Collaborative Consulting Group.  He recently completed eight years of service on the Washington State Board of Education (January 2014-2021).  In December 2016, Jeff retired as the Director for STEM Education at the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL). PNNL is a national science and engineering laboratory operated by Battelle for the U.S. Department of Energy.  At PNNL, Jeff was responsible for strategy execution and evaluation of the Laboratory’s efforts in STEM education.  Jeff’s responsibilities included 1) providing STEM education thought leadership, 2) informing state and federal policies that advance STEM education, 3) identifying and building collaborations to accelerate STEM education outcomes, and 4) distinguishing PNNL as an asset to the region and the nation through STEM education leadership.

<p class="MsoNoSpacing">At the conclusion of his career at PNNL, Jeff was Director, Mid-Columbia STEM Education Collaboratory and Co-Director, Washington State Leadership and Assistance for Science Education Reform (LASER).  He also played a leading role in designing, launching and implementing, Delta High School, a STEM-focused high school in the Tri-Cities, Washington.  He served on the Washington State Mathematics, Engineering and Science Achievement (MESA) Board of Directors and was active in Washington State’s efforts to adopt and implement the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS).
