Joana Girante

Joana Girante is a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Economics Department at Arizona State University, where she also serves as the Online Course Coordinator. Formerly, she was on the faculty at the University of Minho (Portugal). Joana received her Ph.D. in Economics from North Carolina State University in 2008. She generally teaches between 500 and 1,000 economics students per semester in a mixture of in-person, online, and hybrid courses. Recently, Joana flipped her Principles of Microeconomics course, which she teaches in an Active Learning Classroom using active learning techniques. Joana sees economics everywhere and is passionate about teaching her students how to use economics to interpret the world around them and make better-informed decisions. Her research focuses on evaluating the effectiveness of novel teaching methods. Joana joined ASU in 2014.
