Alejandro Espera

Dr. Espera is a Lecturer with the Engineering Fundamentals Program of the Tickle College of Engineering, the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. He teaches Computer Solutions to Engineering Problems (EF230) using MATLAB for undergraduate engineering students.

Before joining the program, he was a postdoctoral research associate with the Advincula Lab at the Institute for Advanced Materials and Manufacturing at the same institution. He has a PhD in engineering education and an MA in data analytics and applied statistics from Virginia Tech, USA. He was a former associate professor with the electronics engineering department at the Ateneo de Davao University, Philippines.

He earned his BS and MS degrees in electronics engineering from Ateneo de Davao University and Ateneo de Manila University, Philippines, respectively. He has taught electronics and electrical professional, and foundations of engineering courses, and has done and published research in the areas of advanced materials and manufacturing, the design and optimization of electronic systems, instructional designs in teaching electrical and electronics engineering concepts, and curricular innovations for advanced manufacturing programs.

He is a licensed electronics engineer (Philippine Regulatory Commission Reg. No. 0050072) and a member of the Institute of Electronics Engineers of the Philippines (IECEP). He is a member of the American Society for Engineering Education (ASEE), American Chemical Society (ACS), a regular member of the National Research Council of the Philippines (NRCP) Engineering and Industrial Research Division, and the Philippine Society for Engineering Education (PSEE).
