The 2016 NSTA Area Conference in Columbus, Ohio

The NSTA Area Conference in Columbus, Ohio will be held from December 1 to 3, 2016. Together with the Ohio Earth Science Teachers Association, we have two workshops plus a Share-a-Thon. Ohio is also hosting a rock raffle. All of these take place on Friday, December 2 in the Hyatt Regency Columbus, Regency Ballroom.

  • NESTA Shares: Innovative Ways to Teach About Earth's Place in the Universe, 8:00 AM - 9:00 AM. NESTA members will share a variety of strategies to enhance your studies of astronomy to help implement NGSS and network your school.
  • NESTA Shares: Innovative Ways to Teach About Minerals, Rocks, and Resources, 9:30 AM - 10:30 AM. NESTA members facilitate classroom-ready activities weaving together NGSS threads of practice, disciplinary core ideas, and crosscutting concepts regarding minerals, rocks, and natural resources.
  • The Ohio and National Earth Science Teachers Association Share-a-Thon, 11:00 AM - 12:00 PM. Join more than 20 OESTA and NESTA members and other educators as they share their favorite geology, atmosphere, oceanography, astronomy, and Earth systems science classroom and lab activities. Many free handouts!
  • Ohio Earth Science Teachers Association (OESTA): "Famous" Rock Raffle, 12:30 PM - 1:30 PM. Come bid for a chance to win crystals, minerals, rocks, and fossil specimens, as well as other Earth science-related items such as books, posters, and DVDs for your classroom or lab. Proceeds benefit the OESTA Teacher Mini-Grant Program.
  • Ohio Friends of Earth Science Reception, 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM, Location: Harrison Room at the Hyatt Regency Columbus. This reception is generously sponsored by the Ohio Aggregates & Industrial Minerals Association (OAIMA) and the Ohio Mining and Mineral Education Program (OMMEP).
