Calling all NESTA members!

Would you or another NESTA colleague be willing to serve our organization in a leadership capacity? We are seeking members in good standing to be nominated for the following ten positions: President-Elect, Secretary, Treasurer, four Regional Directors, two Directors-at-Large, and one Board Member Representative to the Executive Committee. Terms for President-Elect, Secretary, Treasurer, Regional Directors and Directors-at-Large run from May 1, 2018 – April 30, 2020 while the term for the Board Member Representative to the Executive Committee runs from May 1, 2018 – April 30, 2019. The deadline for nominations is December 15, 2017. Read descriptions of the positions below and nominate yourself today!

President-Elect

Description: The President-Elect serves for a term of 2 years, after which time the President-Elect assumes the office of President for another 2 years, followed by the option of serving as the Past-President for 2 more years. The President-Elect serves on the Executive Committee and the Board of Directors and is chair of the Nominations and Elections committee. The President-Elect assumes responsibilities of the President in the event he or she is unable to carry out the duties of the office.

Term: Two years.

Secretary

Description: The Secretary serves on the Executive Committee and the Board of Directors to keep an official record of the proceedings of NESTA and sends communications as directed by the President and Executive Director.

Term: Two years.

Treasurer

Description: The Treasurer serves on the Executive Committee and the Board of Directors and has charge of all NESTA monies. The Treasurer serves as chair of the Finance committee and collaborates with the committee to prepare a yearly organization budget, along with an annual report to the Executive Committee.

Term: Two years.

Regional Director (4):

Description: NESTA has a total of eight Regional Directors (RDs) who are elected from and by the full membership of NESTA and who represent the interests of the association within their Region. Four RDs are elected per year and serve for the following two years. RDs are members of the NESTA Board of Directors and may be Board Member representatives to the Executive Committee as well as serve on NESTA committees. RDs serve as a liaison between NESTA and their respective region, communicating closely with their State Contacts, helping to support, guide, and encourage them. RDs are expected to attend all Board of Directors monthly teleconferences where they will help set policy, approve budgets, establish annual dues, plan the overall program for the year, make recommendations regarding proposed amendments to the Bylaws, and devise and carry out measures for the growth and welfare of the organization related to Earth and Space Science Education.

Term: Two years.

Director-at-Large (2):

Description: NESTA has a total of four Directors-at-Large (DAL) who are elected from and by the full membership of NESTA and who represent the interests of the association. Two DAL are elected per year and serve for the following two years. Board Member Representative to the Executive Committee (1):

Description: Board Member Representatives to the Executive Committee (BMRTECs) are elected from and by the Regional Directors, Directors-at-Large, and the Appointed Directors for a one-year term. In addition to the duties of their primary office (RD, DAL, or AD), their duties include attendance at all Executive Committee teleconference meetings, reporting on the actions of the Executive Committee at those meetings, and also reporting on email exchanges that occur between teleconferences.
