Background Information

Rae Jean B. Goodman is a Professor of Economics and the Director of Teaching and Learning at the U.S. Naval Academy. She earned her PhD at Washington University (St. Louis, Mo) in 1976. She has had more than 30 years of teaching and administrative experience at the U.S. Naval Academy.

She is the first Director of Teaching and Learning and focuses the program to bring a wide range of teaching and learning workshops to the Naval Academy Faculty. In addition to faculty workshops and seminars, Dr. Goodman initiated the use of teaching portfolios at the Academy and created the Instructional Development Support Center, a centralized, faculty support facility intended to introduce emerging educational technologies and to help faculty integrate appropriate technology into the teaching, learning and assessment process.

Related Pedagogical Projects

From 1989 until 1997, she was involved with ETS and Advanced Placement in Economics. She worked on the NAEP Economics 2006 framework and exam. She worked with Mark Maier in developing debate topics for the Shiller introductory text. She has presented a workshop on the jigsaw method at the Lilly Conference on College Teaching, Miami University of Ohio.
