Strategies and Time Investment

Active learning strategies vary greatly in the time necessary to do them well. Some take very little time in class but may need extensive preparation to be effective, and vice versa. The table below provides some information on the time investment needed to implement some different strategies. The Pedagogy in Action website details many additional strategies and maintains a large collection of teaching activities that use them. Note that using an existing activity from the PIA collection tends to cut necessary prep time significantly.
