Using "Good Guide" to Create Better Consumers

To get young people to use good guide ratings system to make them more informed consumers.

Description and Teaching Materials



1. Go to www.goodguide.com

2. Under "about us" at bottom of page click on "who we are". Watch the video and read the material

3. Under the "our ratings" section on the left category click on "ratings" and read how they rate items.

4. Then under the "our ratings" section click on and the "methodology" section and read the material.

5. Use the search bar to try to find see how your favorite item(s) rate.

6. If your item is on good guide read why your items are rated as they are. Also see if there are better items and note the differences

7. If you don't find your item on good guide use a search engine and use their rating system to see how it would rate.

8. Write a report on the differences with your product and the better product or how your product rated. Include in your report whether or not this experience will change your shopping habits and explain.

9. For extra credit the student can write a draft essay to send to a company. The student should ask his/her English teacher for advice.

Teaching Notes and Tips

If the class is small, then the instructor should also follow steps 1-3 to see if the students are properly applying the methods correctly. Work with students to see where they are at and give instruction on an individual basis. If the class is large, the assignment could include in a discussion forum in class if there is similarities in the students comments

Assessment

Students should have research materials with there reports.
