Koshland Science Museum Celebrates 10 Years, Opens Idea Lab

On April 24, the Koshland Science Museum will celebrate its 10th anniversary with the opening of the Idea Lab, an unconventional gallery space where the museum plans to pilot new interactive approaches in collaboration with its visitors.

The Idea Lab, which has selected "community resilience" as its inaugural theme, features an interactive jumbo jigsaw puzzle that visitors can use to create a model of a resilient coastal city, a disaster simulation game, access to real-time data about weather and other public emergency alerts, and much more.

The Koshland wants to design the space in collaboration with its visitors, and is inviting the public to give the museum feedback on what they like most, what could be improved, and what topics and resources they would like to see the museum feature.

The Idea Lab opens on Thursday, April 24, 2014 at 10:00am. For more information, visit the event's page on the Koshland Science Museum's website, found here.

The Koshland Museum of the National Academy of Science participates in NCSCE's SENCER-ISE project, designing the SENCER-ISE website. Koshland's director, Dr. Patrice Legro, who was a fellow in the Noyce Leadership Institute from 2009 to 2010 and helped establish the National Academies' Office on Public Understanding of Science, advises the SENCER-ISE project and manages Koshland's contributions to it. Dr. Legro and the Koshland Museum have hosted members of the SENCER and NCSCE communities in connection with our annual Washington Symposia and Capitol Hill Poster Sessions.
