SCI-New England Symposium Gathers Alumni and Welcomes New Participants

By Rob Sanford, SCI-New England Co-Director

SENCERites of New England gathered at Wheelock College in Boston for a workshop-based regional conference on October 27, 2012 co-sponsored by SENCER, New England Campus Compact, Wheelock College, and the Colleges of the Fenway Center for Sustainability and the Environment.

SENCER Leadership Fellow Dr. Ellen Faszewski took the lead in organizing the event, which featured a collaboration with Campus Compact and focused on civic engagement project presentations. Undergraduate students from five different institutions served on a panel that presented their own experiences with SENCERized courses focused on a service-learning or a civic engagement project.

A workshop was presented for undergraduates on how to develop their resumes to reflect civic engagement and service learning experiences. The event closed with faculty and students participating in a general discussion about SENCER and civic components to student learning. Enthused by the conference, faculty participants from Southern Maine Community College proposed to host a spring 2013 regional event.
