SENCER Leaders Present at Campus Compact Meeting

SENCER Project PI, David Burns, and SENCER Senior Associate, Garon Smith, were invited speakers at Campus Compact's semi-annual network meeting held in Portland, OR, Jan 11-14. The pair introduced the gathered state Campus Compact directors and national office staff to the SENCER Project. The presentation, complete with a chemistry demonstration by Smith, provided an overview of the project's history, goals, activities and resources. The hope of meeting organizers was to foster increased collaboration between the two organizations.

Campus Compact is a national coalition of more than 1,100 college and university presidents-representing some 6 million students-who are committed to fulfilling the civic purposes of higher education. Membership includes public, private, two-and four-year institutions across the spectrum of higher education. Campus Compact promotes public and community service that develops students' citizenship skills, helps campuses forge effective community partnerships, and provides resources and training for faculty seeking to integrate civic and community-based learning into the curriculum.

Collaboration between the two organizations to date has included participation in each other's institutes and regional meetings and co-sponsorship of regional meetings. State Campus Compact offices have also assisted in the formation of regional institutional clusters who are participating in the NCSCE Great Lakes Innovative Stewardship through Education Network (GLISTEN) project.
