SSI Alumni Keynotes MTSU Event

Dr. Autumn Marshall of the Lipscomb University SENCER team was the keynote speaker at the 2009 Chocolate Challenge hosted by the Women In Science and Engineering students at Middle Tennessee State University (MTSU). The Chocolate Challenge is the annual welcome back to campus and recruitment event hosted by the MTSU Women In Science and Engineering (WISE) student organization for which Judith Iriarte-Gross, a SENCER Leadership Fellow, is the advisor. The event was held in the WISE Learning and Living Community where about 45 women majoring in the science, technology, engineering, and mathematics disciplines reside, in addition to nursing, pre-professional, speech, and theater students.

Autumn Marshall is the chair of family and consumer sciences at Lipscomb University. At the Chocolate Challenge, Autumn busted chocolate myths and discussed the "complex and capacious" science of chocolate to over 100 undergraduate and graduate students in the STEM disciplines and in the allied health majors, as well as University Honors College students. As the guest of honor, she cut the first piece of the fuming chocolate volcano cake centerpiece. Both the Lipscomb and the Middle Tennessee SENCER teams look forward to future collaborations.
