Backgrounder on Leading Campus Change Published in Digital Library

'Diffusion of SENCER: Leading Change on Campus' is an account of one urban university's implementation of the SENCER approach to a large-scale general education reform. DonnaJean Fredeen, dean of the school of arts & sciences for Southern Connecticut State University, narrates the process from her own initial participation in a SENCER Summer Institute to working with her early collaborators in the process - James Tait, Terese Gemme, and Vincent Breslin - on pilot courses in the honors college to wider adaptation on campus. Fredeen addresses the adaptation of theories of diffusion of innovation to the process, as well as the importance of bringing new faculty and people who are not initially enthusiastic into the process, and the necessity of using appropriate assessment and evaluation methods to measure success and locate areas for improvement.
