Event Description

Join other geology faculty from 11:00 AM - 12:00 PM we will discuss what new active learning activities we have tried this semester. At noon, we will meet with guest speaker Steve Reynolds, coauthor of "Exploring Geology" for Physical Geology. Reynolds will discuss the data he and his group have gathered about learning and textbook design. He will also give a presentation about concept sketches as teaching/learning tool in science courses and other teaching techniques that he has researched. Lunch will be provided by McGraw-Hill.

Goals

    • Continue to build a regional network of 2YC geoscience faculty.
    • Further develop tools for students both in and outside of the classroom
    • Discuss what new things you tried this semester regarding active learning and metacognition or GRIT.
      • What worked? What didn't work?
      • What are your plans for next semester?
