Spring 2017 Virtual Workshop on Active Learning

Illinois SAGE 2YC: Faculty as Change Agents

7 April 2017, 2:30 to 3:30 PM
Via internet using Zoom (details sent to those who RSVP)

Event Description

This is a virtual workshop that is open to all geoscience instructors at Illinois community colleges. We are particularly interested in those that attended the November 2016 workshop held at Illinois Central College as part of the NSF-funded "Faculty as Change Agents at 2YC" grant.

We would like to hear from you about active learning practices you've tried this year, in either face-to-face or online classes. We'd also like to brainstorm ways to incorporate metacognition into our class structure, getting students to think about how they learn as a way to improve their success.

Please consider joining us for this virtual workshop. Please register by April 1using the link below if you plan to attend. This is an easy way to share with your colleagues about active learning ideas and improving student success.

Through this virtual workshop, we hope to continue building a regional network of 2YC geoscience faculty and others who support the SAGE 2YC project goals:

    • support the academic success of all students;
    • promote professional pathways of students into geoscience; and
    • broaden participation in the geosciences.

The virtual workshop is free, but registration is required.

Registration Deadline: 1 April

Preparation

For those who attended the November workshop, we would like you to

  • tell us what you did
  • tell us the results
  • if you can, please share any assignment that you tried

If you did not attend the November workshop, you are also invited to share.
