The American Chemical Society's HS textbook "Chemistry in the Community" has a water unit. They include a personal water use analysis for students to use on their personal water consumption. As a prelim for your school water audit; students might be able to estimate their household use and compare it to their metered use. It could giv ethem an idea of "error" or leakage.

On another note - we've been trying to do these kind of audits for both water and energy use at Rhodes for years and are hampered by the fact that there is only one meter for the whole campus at this point. They are planning on installing submeters so buildings can be monitored independently, but it is very expensive and the upgrade will be slow.
