Established in 1905, the Forest Service is an agency of the U.S. Department of Agriculture. The Forest Service manages public lands in national forests and grasslands. The mission of the Forest Service is to to provide the greatest amount of good for the greatest amount of people in the long run.

We are entrusted with 193 million acres of forests and grasslands. It’s a big task, but one that we take seriously. We are dedicated to restore and enhance landscapes, protect and enhance water resources, develop climate change resiliency and help create jobs that will sustain communities.
