This issue of the Canadian Building Digest highlights the subsurface issues that cities have faced for centuries such as unstable ground due to resource extraction or subsidence. Several historical examples are cited as well as contemporary efforts in Canadian cities to collect information on the subsurface geology affecting their growth and development. Originally published between 1960 and 1990, the Canadian Building Digest has been released on the web by the National Research Council Canada.
