Education for Spatial Thinking
L. S. Liben 2006 Wiley p197-247

This chapter argues for the importance of spatial thinking and hence spatial education, particularly for the sciences. It reviews theoretical approaches to the development of spatial cognition, group and individual differences in spatial skills, and illustrative interventions that have been developed to enhance spatial skills. A particular focus is children's developing understanding of MAPS; how this understanding may be enhanced through education; and how increased map skills may benefit spatial thinking more generally.
