This data tip from Bridge, the Ocean Sciences Education Teacher Resource Center archive, discusses the water quality significance of benthos, the group of variously-sized fauna that live on, in or near the bottom of a water body. The data activity uses amphipod reburrowing behavior to examine how this small crustacean may be used to indicate pollution in an estuary such as the Chesapeake Bay.
