This excerpt is from Nancy Cantor's speech, Reinvention: Why Now? Why Us? A Second Anniversary Retrospective on the Boyer Commission Report. She gave this speech at the dedication of The Reinvention Center at the State University of New York - Stony Brook on April 28, 2000. Cantor believes that students at a research university must be prepared to interact with a diverse set of peoples and ideas, embrace technology, and work collaboratively. This excerpt focuses on collaboration and democratic engagement not only among undergraduate students, but among undergraduate and graduate students, faculty, and their community.
