What Research Says to the Educator, Part Two: Environmental Education and the Affective Domain

This article from the Journal of Environmental Education provides six recommendations for effective environmental education. The recommendations are as follows: infuse environmental education with an emphasis on the affective domain in all grade levels, use activities which help students understand their own environmental values and illustrate how to improve them, help students develop moral maturity as it relates to environmental problem-solving, include outdoor experiences as much as possible, to use inquiry methods to directly involve students in investigating real environmental problems, and provide environmental education across all subsets of socio-economic status, gender, age or place of residence. Each of these recommendations includes further details about how it can be accomplished in the classroom.
