Using Grain Size Analysis as the Basis for a Research Project in an Undergraduate Sedimentology Course
K. Sian Davies-Vollum January 2006 Journal of Geosceince Education v54, n1, p10-17

This article features a research-style project for an undergraduate sedimentology course. The activity uses grain size analysis of sediments to develop field and laboratory skills, improve writing ability, explore statistical techniques and encourage critical thinking. The project asks students to consider the hypothesis that the grain size distribution of sediment samples can be successfully used as fingerprints to identify sediment transport processes and depositional environments.
