WISE Design for Knowledge Integration
M.C. Linn, D.B. Clark, and J.D. Slotta 2003 Science Education v87(4), p517-538

This paper describes the Web-Based Inquiry Science Environment (WISE) design team practices, features of the WISE learning environment, and patterns of feature use in current library projects. WISE originated from a desire to create sustainable classroom inquiry instruction across varied learning contexts. It integrates modern technologies, including the world-wide-web and hand held devices, to create flexibly adaptive materials. WISE project designers can customize existing projects, create and test new projects, and monitor progress from one year to the next. WISE projects are designed to cultivate life-long learning and make science accessible to students, allowing them to see varied scientific activities in the context of inquiry.
