This 5-page PDF file describes the use of infrared spectroscopy to identify mineral similarities and differences in drill core samples, quickly and without extensive sample preparation. According to the authors the analytical spectral device spectrometer will enable detailed mineralogic identification of samples in the field as it is fully portable and can be powered by batteries. Alteration zones and stratigraphy correlation in fault zones may be especially useful to field geologists.
