Examples of what you can do with these data
If you are using our Arc IMS website
Accessing the data through the IMS website allows you to see a quick "snapshot" of what data are available. You can rapidly display data from a list of geological and geophysical datasets for geographic areas of interest (at any scale) that you can select. Functions that are available for you to select and display data using this IMS include:
- Toggle between the legend and the layers
- Toggle between the overview map and the main map
- Zoom in and zoom out
- Zoom to full extent vs. zoom to active layer
- Go back to the last extent
- Pan around the map as well as pan north, south, east, west
- Identify
- Query
- Find and measure features
- Set units for the map
- Select features by rectangle or by lines and polygons
- You can also print the current screen
If you are using your own GIS software, you can download the full datasets via the FTP site
Accessing the data through the FTP site and downloading the layers that are of interest allows you to have more control. Once you have downloaded the data you can select as many layers as you would like to have displayed. By downloading the data you will be able to:
- always have access to the data
- modify features
- create more in-depth queries
- integrate data from geological, geophysical and geochemical datasets
- explore options that are not available with the IMS website
