Dear Colleague,
Community input has been invaluable in guiding the development of websites
for geoscience faculty at SERC and Montana State University. To continue
this practice, we are seeking participants for several focus groups during
the upcoming AGU meeting in San Francisco. These focus groups will provide
guidance for the following 4 websites which are being developed as part of
the DLESE Community Services Center, with funding from the National Science
Foundation (03-06708).
o Integrating Research and Education
http://serc.carleton.edu/research_education/index.html
o Preparing Teachers to Teach Earth Science
http://serc.carleton.edu/teacherprep/index.html
o Teaching Quantitative Skills in the Geosciences
http://serc.carleton.edu/quantskills/
o Using Data in the Classroom Portal
http://serc.carleton.edu/usingdata/index.html
We are interested in participation from all parts of the geosciences. You
need not have used these sites before the focus group. Selected
participants will receive refreshments and a $20 gift certificate.
We would like to have groups of 8-10 participate in a structured
walkthrough of one of the websites. Following the walkthrough we would
like to talk about the content, organization and potential use of the
website. Would you be interested in participating in such a focus group
at AGU? The focus groups will meet at the Marriott for 75 minutes either
Tuesday, December 6th or Wednesday, December 7th.
Evaluation of the workshop website is an integral aspect of continuing to
improve these websites. The information that we gather through these
focus groups will allow us to understand your potential use of the website
and will be used to improve it. Be assured that your privacy is important
to us: the focus group discussion will remain confidential and we will not
identify you by name in any of the subsequent publications of the research
results.
Let me know by November 8th if you are willing and able to join us for one
of these focus groups and your preference on which date and time. Thank
you for your continuing support of this project.
