Greetings-
Sarah Titus, Eric Horsman and I have organized a session for the upcoming
GSA meeting in Philadelphia (abstract deadline July 11). We hope that many
of you will find this of interest and submit abstracts related to your work
in the area. Cognitive scientists living near Philly--this is a great
opportunity to see geologists engaged in presenting their highly visual,
spatial work and to learn more about how these skills are used in field
based research.

If you would like to submit an abstract for the session, please use the GSA
website <http://www.geosociety.org/meetings/2006/abstracts.htm> on or
before July 11. It gives you a chance to select which session you would
like to submit to, we are session T42.

I hope this is of interest and that at least those of you in Philly will be
interested. this is the best I can do at bringing geoscientists to you :).

Visualization in the Geosciences
Sarah Titus, Eric Horsman, Cathryn Manduca

Visualizing multidimensional data lies at the heart of geoscience. Yet many
students have difficulty developing the complex three-dimensional
visualization skills necessary to succeed in the geosciences. Currently,
powerful new tools are revolutionizing the way we collect, display, and
interact with geoscience data. At the same time, cognitive science is
shedding new light on the development of spatial cognitive skills. This
session will bring together papers describing new visualization methods and
tools and their use in geoscience research and education, with papers
describing our growing understanding of the development of spatial skills.
We invite papers that address all aspects of visualization, from both the
geoscience and cognitive science perspectives, in geoscience research and
education.
