Greetings Viz workshop participants-
I am back at Carleton for my final two weeks working on workshop resources.
During this time I will be working in three areas:
-creating visualization topical mini-collections (e.g.
<http://serc.carleton.edu/NAGTWorkshops/visualize04/tides.html>
- finishing the template for developers to share information about tools
- finishing the initial prototype of the demonstrations collection
This message is about the topical mini-collections. Based on the list of
topics needing visualization resources (a list created by John Geissman's
workshop group), I have chosen 6 topics which I will personally develop
into topical mini-collections: 1)Gravity and Isostasy, 2)Mountain Uplift
and Erosion, 3)Fluvial Processes, 4)Radioactive Decay/ Absolute Age
Determinations, 5) Sedimentation Models, and 6) Turbidite Development. I
will work to make complete, but small collections in each of these areas
over the next two weeks.
If any of you would be willing to develop other topical mini-collections to
help expand our collection, the next two weeks are the time when I can help
with these. I would like to encourage you to select a topic (one near and
dear to your heart where you know the resources and could quickly identify
the best resources), and using our existing topical mini-collections as an
example, develop a word document with the text and urls that you think
would be appropriate. I can work with you from there to make the webpage.
You can find ideas for collections on the Program page, Saturday Afternoon
Working Groups under What visualizations are needed?

I know that many of you are busy and may not be able to work over the next
two weeks. This isn't the last chance to contribute to the site--but it is
the last chance to have my extended help. So if you can work it in -- this
would be the moment. We estimate that it takes 1/2 day to pull together
the initial word document with 8-10 quality visualizations and short
descriptions.
Please contact me asap if you would like to develop a topical
mini-collection. I will make sure we don't get two people working on the
same topic. If you would like to help but can't think of a topic, Cathy
and I will be happy to brainstorm with you.
The workshop was very productive for all of us. I hope that you will
participate in this activity to help make visualizations more useable for
faculty in their teaching.
