Greetings Visualization workshop participants--
Many thanks to all of you for registering for the workshop in a timely
fashion :). You can now find the names of all of the participants on the
website (serc.carleton.edu/NAGTWorkshops/visualize04)--follow the link to
Participants. (Please let us know if we have made a mistake with name
institution etc.)
This is a reminder that we would like you to upload your essay no later
than next Wednesday, February 18. You can find full instructions for both
the content of the essay and how to upload it on the workshop website
--follow the link to Contribute Essay. Please don't hesitate to contact me
or to write this list if you have questions about the essay.
Thank you also for the titles of your poster presentations/demonstrations.
We have a very even split between the sessions and these look great. Watch
the program page for a listing of the titles in the next day or so.
I have new information for you about creating your posters. The poster
boards are 48 inches wide by 24 inches tall. They are made out of plywood
-- so it will be very difficult to put up a poster that is not a single
sheet. I would recommend a single sheet poster that is no larger than 48
inches wide by 36 inches tall.
Secondly the posters will be outside the room with the computer
demonstrations. Thus, if you would like to be able to refer to your poster
while you are sitting at your computer demonstration, I would recommend
that you make an 11 X 17 version of your poster and laminate it. If you
would like us to do this for you, we would be happy to. Just send the
poster as a powerpoint or pdf file to me no later than February 20.
Lastly, we would be pleased to put your posters on the website as well.
You can upload your poster via the workshop website -follow the link to
Contribute Poster. These will be best viewed if they are submitted as pdf
files.
We are busily working to make collections of references about teaching and
learning with visualizations, visualizations useful for teaching in the
geosciences, and information about creating effective visualizations. We
would be delighted to have your suggestions for these collections. Follow
the link to--Contribute Resources.
Once again, many thanks for your enthusiasm. We are looking forward to
first reading the essays and then having you here for the workshop. .
Please let me know if you have any questions.
