Geological Sciences Faculty
Central Washington University Department of Geological Sciences seeks
seeks applicants for two 9-month, non-tenure-track instructor
positions from September 16, 2005 through June 15, 2006.
QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates must have earned a minimum of a Master's
Degree in Geological Sciences or closely allied field by the start
date; Ph.D. is preferred. Open to applicants from all disciplines of
geological sciences. The successful applicants must show potential to
be excellent teachers of both introductory and upper-division geology
courses. All applicants will be considered for both positions unless
they request otherwise.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Responsibilities include teaching 15
contact hours per quarter that include either 1) Historical Geology
or 2) Stratigraphy and Environmental Geology; teaching multiple
sections of introductory, non-majors geology courses, and an upper
division course in the applicant's area of expertise. The range of
classes to be covered during the academic year is below; introductory
course assignments are subject to change:
Position 1:
GEOL 370 Stratigraphy (lecture plus 2 labs)
GEOL 380, Environmental Geology and ENST 301 Environmental Studies
GEOL 101, Physical Geology (1 lecture section)
GEOL 108, Introduction to Environmental Geology (3 lecture sections)
Upper division course in the applicant's specialty, possibly Quaternary Geology
Position 2:
GEOL 200, Historical Geology (Earth Evolution and Global Change)
(lecture plus 2 labs)
GEOL 101, Physical Geology (3 lecture sections)
GEOL 107, Earthquake, Volcanoes and Civilization (3 lecture sections)
GEOL 108, Introduction to Environmental Geology (1 lecture section)
Upper division course in the applicant's specialty
SALARY RANGE: Salary is dependent on qualifications and experience.
STARTING DATE: Fall 2005 (9/16/05). Screening of applicants will
begin May 25, 2005 and will continue until positions are filled.

Central Washington University is a comprehensive state university

degrees. The Department of Geological Sciences has approximately 60
undergraduate majors and 15 graduate students. The department is
composed of a dynamic and enthusiastic group of nine faculty and
several research staff who maintain active, diverse, and
internationally recognized research programs in which undergraduate
and MS graduate students participate. The department houses new
geochemistry facilities including a Philips PW 3400 Powder X-Ray
Diffractometer, ThermoElemental X-series inductively coupled plasma
mass spectrometer, ThermoFinnigan DeltaPlus XP gas source mass
spectrometer, and clean and stable isotope laboratories, a geodesy
laboratory, excellent research computer facilities, digital surveying
equipment, and Nikon and Leica petrographic microscopes and a
research polarizing reflected and transmitting light microscope with

15,000 that enjoys one of the finest living environments of the
Pacific Northwest. On the eastern flank of the Cascade Mountains and
