**** Apologies for multiple postings *****
This message is to call your attention to Topical Session T114 at the
Geological Society of America Annual Meeting in Salt Lake, October
16-19, 2005: http://www.geosociety.org/meetings/2005/.
T114 *We Can Continue To Do Better: More Alternatives to the Same Old
Lab-Lecture Format in the College Classroom
*Sponsored by the GSA Geoscience Education Division, and the National
Association of Geoscience Teachers.
Conveners: Elizabeth King <emking at ilstu.edu>
Dexter Perkins <dexter_perkins at und.nodak.edu>
Elizabeth M. King, Illinois State University, Normal, Ill.; Dexter
Perkins, University of North Dakota, Grand Forks, N.Dak.
Building on last year's successful theme session, we seek contributions
from a wide range of geo-disciplines. We hope to attract speakers who
will describe exciting and successful innovations they have made in
their classrooms – innovations that have moved them away from the
standard 2 or 3 lectures plus one lab a week format to something that
better promotes student learning. Topics that could be discussed
include exercises, alternatives pedagogies, and alternative scheduling.
Our present plan is to have both a poster and an oral session.
The abstract submission deadline is July 12th - information on the
submission process is available on the GSA webpage:
Please feel free to contact either of us if you have questions about
the session. We are looking forward to a lot of lively,
cross-disciplinary discussion
